Week 1 - Day 4 - Activity 2

Macaroni and Cheese

1) Bring about 4 quarters of salted water to boil over high heat in a large pot. Then add the Pasta and cook allowing to package directions until its al dente, about 8 minutes then drain the water and set aside.

2) Set 1 cup of the milk in a medium saucepan over average heat. Meanwhile, place the remaining 1/2 cup of milk and flour in a small bowl and whisk together until there are no lumps. Meanwhile, you just start to see wisps of steam rising from the warming milk, whisk in the milk-and-flour mixture. Continue whisking gently until the milk sets slightly to the texture of heavy cream, 3 - 4 minutes.

3) Turn the heat to low and begin whisking handfuls of cheese into the milk. Mix in the salt and mustard. Stir until all the cheese becomes melted and the sauce is creamy. Taste and correct the seasonings as wanted. Dismiss the sauce from the heat.

4) Store the pasta and 1/2 of the cheese sauce in a large serving container. Stir to coat the pasta evenly. Add the resting sauce and any extra add-ins and stir to combine. If you'd like a looser sauce, add up to another 1/4 cup milk if desired. Serve the mac and cheese instantly while yet warm.

  1. Kia ora Joshua,

Yum! This macaroni and cheese recipe is making me hungry. It is one of my favourite foods too. My ultimate favourite food is Pierogi. Pierogi is a sort of Polish dumping - because my mums side of the family is Polish!

    Keep up the awesome blogging!

    Talk soon,

    Sophie :)

  2. Hi Joshua,

I've done this activity too. Well done for completing this task. "YUMMM" this sure sounds yummy to taste. Thanks for sharing the ingredients and instructions about this recipe, because I'd like to make it one time. If you were to choose to make it with someone from the SLJ team, who would it be?

    NICE:)

  3. Hi Joshua,
Well done on finishing this Summer Learning Journey activity. Your recipe on how to make macaroni and cheese is great. Although it isn't my favorite food, I also like to eat macaroni and cheese. What is your second favorite dish? Keep up the good work.
