How has technology changed the way we learn?

Technology has changed the way we learn these days. Did you know technology connects us to the world? During the 1900’s, children in classrooms used blackboards to write their follow up work on. These were called slates.

Slates were called slates because they were made out of slate. After using blackboards, notebooks and ink were introduced in classrooms. Notebooks were better than slates because they would keep things safe, and unlike blackboards it was not easy to wipe out the work. This meant students had a record of their work.

Inkwells were replaced by pens, pencils and rubbers. Rubbers are used to rub things out if mistakes were made when writing with pencils. This meant students were able to try new things without worrying about making a mistake in their work.

Nowadays we now use computers. Computers are digital learning devices. They help us look through the internet when we are finding the answers to new learning. We can create DLOs (Digital learning objects) like slideshows, google draw posters, movies and spreadsheets on one device. We can see our learning at our class google site at any time,  and our blogs let everyone in the world see the work we publish.

In 2018 we are using our digital devices instead of using blackboards or notebooks which shows technology has changed the way we learn.

How have camels adapted to their environment?

Camels have adapted to the desert because Camels normally live in a hot area.  Did you know in the desert it can get up to 42 degrees of heat? This is probably why camels can drink up to 46 Liters of water in one session.

The extreme heat makes the sand very hot so on their feet camels have special pads that help them walk on the hot sand they also have webbed between their toes to help them walk easily. Camels have doubled eyelashes and has ears that are covered in long hair. The Eyelashes and ears help so sand cannot go in their eyes or ears. Nostrils can close so sand can’t go into their nose.

Camels have thick lips that will help them eat sharp foods like thorns, cactus, twigs, and bones. In the Cactus they produce water.

Camels can survive without drinking water for 30 days. Camels also have thick fur for the shade that is on top of their hump. In the Camel's hump, they have fat. Fat helps them helps them have energy when they can’t find food.

Nowadays camels still have adapted to a very hot and dry desert. The desert has no water, but in the cactus, they produce water for the camel's hump.

Leap of faith

First Flight

Each time the sun suddenly goes down and the moon rises up I always watch my parents fly up high in the sky searching for food. I really wanted to fly just like them. I had a great idea and because I was so plucky I knew I just wanted to fly. My parents just inspired me, so I walked up to my window and I glanced outside to see how all the owls and birds fly in the night sky.

I lifted one leg up and I launched my body out of the open window. I could smell the fresh flesh in the soil ready for me to feast.  As I flew into the sky, I glided through the bushy trees looking for a location to hunt for my meal. I pecked the soft and dirty soil pinching the worm in my mouth out of the dirt eating it softly.

Then, With the worm in my mouth still wriggling in my beak I flew back home safely. Eating the worms made my mouth water.  I knew that it was my first flight flying into the sky and looking at the beautiful view. I walked back down the stairs and I told my parents that I had my first flight.

The next day

I woke for school. I knew what I was going to do. Instead of driving to school I told my parents that I could fly to school.

Today for writing me and my partner Joel were writing a story of an owl having its first flight. I
then painted a picture in my head so I can create a story about me having my first flight.

Stretch Sentences

Today Mrs A's writing group have learnt what Stretch Sentences is. Brooklyn and I were collaborating to create a stretch sentences poster. To stretch sentence we used who, what, when, where and why in our story.

Today for writing we were learning to write for 2 minutes. I talked to my partner about the ideas we would put into our sentences and we made a word list that we can include. For our writing sample we used I can see, I can smell, I can hear, I can feel and I can taste.

Let me tell you someone about the Winter Olympics

Let me tell you about the 2018 Winter Olympics… Winter Olympics is a sports competitions were countries represent their own country team. The Winter Olympics is held in South Korea, Pyeongchang. It started on the 9th and ended on the 25th of February 2018. In the winter olympics they have many kind of sports. There are 92 countries that played at the winter olympics games. The only sports that has a Rifle is Biathlon. The Olympics values are Excellence, Respect and Friendship. The Winter Olympics and the RIO Olympics are different, because the winter olympics is held in the winter season. When each team has won a game they will be given a gold, silver or bronze medals. The passion connect logo means the people, earth,  heaven.Each sports or events have there own arena, stadium or courses so they know where they are going to play there sports game.  

This Morning we worked in pairs to talk about the Winter Olumpics. We first wrote the Let me tell you something about the 2018 Winter Olympics. We had 5 minutes to type our sentcese in. Jaydon and I had to take turns typing so we can carry on writing eachs others sentces. We were back to back so we can not talk to each other. This was really diffcult because Jaydon and I were writing the same thing and we had to make sure what we wrote and what our partner wrote made sense.

How Chinese New Year is Celebrated?

Chinese New Year is one of the biggest celebrations in the world. Celebrating Chinese New Year involves food, animals, and colours such as red and gold.  These 4 things are very traditional. Everything during this festive holiday means something.

Gold is known as the most beautiful colour. It is worn by royalty or people of importance. It also stands for wealth. Red is also a very important colour during the Chinese New Year holiday as it represents good luck. In China, red envelopes that have money inside are given to children and unmarried adults. People also decorate their houses with red banners. Food also symbolises something meaningful to the Chinese culture.

For instance, noodles are eaten for happiness and for a long life with good health. Egg rolls stand for wealth because they look like gold bars. Fish is thought to increase prosperity while oranges and tangerines symbolise fullness. Like the food and the colours all around the world lanterns are a special part in the Chinese New Year.

Usually lanterns that are a part of the Chinese holiday are red. Lanterns symbolise the wish of a bright future or, as many others believe, it is done to send wishes when love ones pass. Traditionally, lanterns are made from oiled rice paper which covers a bamboo frame.

As usual, Chinese traditions are meaningful to everyone who is from China. From the food to the dancing. As long as this Chinese tradition keeps going the identity of the Chinese people will always remain through the years. Kung hei fat choi to everyone. (This means Happy New Year in Chinese)

Today Jeremiah and I were writing an explanation about How Chinese New Year is Celebrated. In our writing explanation Mrs. Anderson gave us a simple tip of what goes into our writing explanation. It was called tiic (title, introduction, information and conclusion). In our explanation we put in what colors they use, the food they eat and why the food is important during the chinese New Year.

Remembering our summer hoilday

I heard the waves splashing on the hot sand.

I heard loud music beaming in my ears.

I saw people as pink as a flamingo.

I felt frightened because the massive rocks had a birds eye view of the blue harbour that laid beneath my feet.

I felt my heart beating as fast as a car.

I wondered if people might tumble onto the hard ground after falling off their bikes.

I wondered how long I would have to wait to get back to the safety of my home.

Today I have been writing a recount about remembering our summer holiday. My task was to make sentences without telling the reader what I did in the summer holiday. I had to finish the sentence, I heard, I saw, I felt, and I wondered. I learnt to put some powerful words in my story so that I can engage my reader.

How Children Learn at School

Do you remember when you were a child and copying your friends or teacher by observing, you asked questions because you are curious, and took risks in school to learn? Learning is having courage to ask questions, so that you are able to make connections with your what you are talking about. Learning is important since you are growing your knowledge.

Children are good observers, they are able to watch and learn new skills. By watching, they are increasing the amount of knowledge they have. Children look up to role models so they can see new ways that they could learn.

Children ask questions because they are eager to learn more. Children are interested in a topic, so they try to understand it more and so they ask for help from their classmates or teachers, to make connections with their learning.

Children take risks so they understand what they’re learning about, some of the risks are things like; asking questions, and asking students for help. Since they ask other people, they are looking at different perspectives which will help them explore different ideas.

Many people have different learning styles, some watch videos, some read, some people ask their elderlies like the teacher. To find your learning style, you have to find a way which makes you comfortable, like watching videos makes people comfortable because people are talking to you, with their opinions. You have to find something that makes sense to you. You could read, or even simply ask questions. Your learning style will help you understand, but everyone has different learning styles.

Today Learning space 2 were practising writing an explaination for our writing test. We had our own writing buddys, my writing buddys were Nazella and Hajera. Our topic was about "How Children Learn at school". Then we had to work with anothor group, we were working with Jericho and Christopher. They had to read our explaintion and we had to read thier explaintion. They gave us feedback and feedforward.

How the camel has adapted to surviving in the desert.

Camels live in deserts, which are hot and dry places. Camels have adapted to these conditions which means they are surviving without struggling.

To help them walk on the hot sand camels have special pads on their feet. They have also got webbed feet so that they can walk easily on the sand.

Camels have a hump. This is full of fat which helps them have energy when they can't find food. They have fur on their hump. This helps them keep cool in the day and warm in the night.

They have thick lips so they don't get hurt by sharp points when they eat bones, thorns and cactus plants.

Camels can drink about 46 litres of water in one session. Did you know that camels can live without water for 30 days? This is because they don't lose water by sweating in the heat.

The camel has double eyelashes, slits in their nostrils and fur in their ears so they are protected from the sand in a sand storm.

Camels have adapted and changed over time so they can survive in the hot, sandy desert.

Learning to use synonyms

Today we learnt about synonyms. Synonyms are words that mean the same thing but can make your writing more interesting. To help me I used the google dictionary to define my words because it gives you a list of synonyms underneath the definition. It was interesting to try new words in my writing.

Let me tell you something about...

Let me tell you something about lunchtimes at Panmure Bridge School. First when the lunch bell rings we quickly run outside like a wolf is chasing us. Then we get our school bags and we open it up to see what's in our nice beautiful lunches. When we open our plastic bags we open it like a present. Some people have homemade lunches which was made by their family members, others have dairy foods from the shops. We quickly eat  our food like there is a race happening. When we finish our  delicious food we look around like a spy kid to see if there is any rubbish on the floor. We run down the stairs and run all the way to the handball grid. Sometimes people play handball, people make excuses when they lose and some people play hard. There is also sports practise happening. People like going to sport practise because they like to represent the school. We also have lunchtime activities with our visitors. Kids play in the playground and run around like fast cheetahs. People play basketball and try to shoot the ball in the hoop. As soon as the bell rings everyone walks back to class sleepy because they had lots of fun. Some people go to the toilets or have a drink. One person takes the milk and fruit to the hall. When they line up to wait for their teachers they talk like they having a meeting so they can play their games another day. When we go in class we sit down sweating.

Today we were practising to write a 4 minute descriptions. We had to write about lunchtimes at Panmure Bridge School. First we proofread our sentences to ourselves. After, we had to read our partner’s work. and to take out some mistakes or to add more powerfull words. We added some powerful words to my partner’s work. I found it hard because I didn't know where to put my commas. When I read my partner’s work, I found easy to make a picture in my head.

Learning to give other people clear instructions

   
Today we played an activity with Mrs A writing I played with Jona Dana and we had to follow the instruction of what were they saying.

Presonification with Hajera

This DLO shows my learning about personification. I worked with Hajera, we had to write about the days of the week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were the boring days of the week and Thursday was a bit exciting because it was nearly the last day of the week. Friday was the best because you can do anything. Saturday was a relaxing day and Sunday was mad because it was nearly Monday.

Writing Instructions

Today in writing we were given a set of instructions. We had to put these boxes in order so they make sense. We then had to use our scribble tool to draw around the words that are verbs.

I felt happy when I first played the midnight game. I was full of energy and happiness. I wanted to cheat but we’re not allowed to, because we're supposed to be behind the line. I enjoyed playing the game by myself instead of with a partner. When I play with  a partner I would always lose because my partner would move. We can see other people doing different pose. If we keep moving Mr Ogilvie will tell us to do star jumps until he’s says STOP as Mr Ogilvie screams stop my ears was about to fall off.

What is an explanation? By Joshua V & Josh S

A blog is a website where you share your learning and ideas. My blog is special because it tells people about my learning. All blogs are unique because all blogs are different.

I have 14,395 views on my blog and 341 blog post on my blog - that means I have 341 examples of my learning that has been shared with the world (my global audience). Each post has a blurb that tells what I have been learning. I label each post so that my work is easy to find. For example if I post a poem I label the post as a poem so that people search for my poem so they can find it quickly. We also can share our work to other social media (eg. gmail.com, facebook, twitter, Pinterest).

There is a comments section under each post for other people to give us feedback on our work. We can reply back with a nice and positive comment which helps us get to know other learners.  

My blog is special because it is a timeline of where it shows my learning journey since I was in Year 4. The best part is that our blog can not be lost or thrown away.

Today we wrote about an explanation we had to write down a intro to come onto the explanation there were 4 parts of an explanation it is called title, introduction, poipio and conclusion.
